Tiger Graphics Little Photography School

For Kids, Beginners & Curious

NoteAbout this page

This photography school is especially aimed at kids, beginners, and the curious who want to learn how to take photos with real cameras. However, much of the content is also relevant for smartphone photography. The photography school presents a subjective compilation of the aspects of photography that we, the photographers of Tiger Graphics, consider important for taking good photos. The guide is by no means complete. We have placed the focus on the technical aspects of photography. A few technical terms are mentioned that are not explained further, but are instead linked to Wikipedia. The operation of your camera cannot be covered here, as operation varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and camera type to camera type. Please consult your user manual for this.

The sections “Basics”, “Photo Subjects”, and “Image Composition” explain the most important things you need to know about “old-school” photography. For some topics, they refer to the “Technology” section, where certain aspects are explained in more detail. The “Basics” section explains the most important terms related to digital camera photography. You will need to check your own camera’s manual to find out exactly how to operate it. The “Image Motifs” section explains how to capture different subjects, such as people, animals, or landscapes. In the “Composition” section, you will find many examples of what distinguishes a good image from a bad one. The “Image Errors” section explains typical mistakes that can happen while taking photos and how to fix or avoid them. A dedicated section is devoted to analog photography. It explains analog black-and-white developing and printing. Under “Experimental”, you will find ideas for things you can do with photography. Some of these require additional equipment, such as special lenses or filters. A few tips on presenting images and the legal questions to consider are summarized in the “Presentation” and “Legal Issues” sections.
